"A Kind Hearted Place"

Pangalos Taverna

This was the sign that greeted the first tourists to come to Roda and visit Pangalos’s Taverna – the oldest in the north of the Island. It’s still displayed and aptly so, for if you’re looking for a part of old Corfu, serving delicious home-cooked traditional food with ‘old style’ courteous service and attention, then you’ve got it all here.

Step through the doors and you are straight into the cool interior of a traditional Greek family taverna. A little way further and you are out on the only secluded beach-front terrace in the village, where traditional home-cooked meals can be enjoyed in quiet surroundings with stunning views - just the place for that romantic moment.

It’s easy to pass by unless you’re in the know, many have mistaken it for a private house, albeit having signage, as they eagerly explore the brightly lit bars and shops in the village centre. Sighted immediately opposite Crusoe’s Bar in the narrow street is the unassuming front entrance to Pangalos … step inside and you enter a different world with original stone-flagged floor, antique memorabilia and ancient photographs. A spacious, protected verandah looks out over the beach, the Corfu straits and the Albanian mountains affording the most intimate and spectacular dining location in Roda.
Your hostess is Spridoula, a lead hospital sister by profession, who carries on the family tradition into the fourth generation. This charming lady will advise you of the menu and the ‘specials’ of the day. She will personally ensure that your every requirement is catered for and don’t be surprised if she comes out of the kitchen to offer you a free taste of something else she is preparing that she feels you might like.
